U.S. Ski & Snowboard has announced the first 14 athletes of the Davis U.S. Cross Country Ski Team that will compete at the 2021 FIS Cross Country World Championships in Oberstdorf, Germany, February 22nd through March 7th (mark your calendars!).
FIS World Cup leader Jessie Diggins leads a team stacked with veteran racers including Rosie Brennan who has earned 5 podium appearances this season and is 3rd on the Overall Cup leader board. The team also features up-and-coming talent, including 2020 Junior World Champion Gus Schumacher, who has scored World Cup points in his past 10-consecutive starts while competing in his first World Cup season.
Additional athletes may be added to the team following this weekend’s races in Ulricehamn, Sweden, and in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, on February 20th and 21st. Approximately 18 athletes will ultimately represent the U.S. in Oberstdorf. Davis U.S. Cross Country Program Director Chris Grover stated that: “Many of our best domestic performances this season have come from some of our younger athletes, and because of this, we want to evaluate performances at the upcoming Junior and U23 (athletes younger than 23-years-old) World Championships (February 8th – 14th in Vuokatti, Finland) and name additional athletes to this World Championships Team on February 15th.”
